Oil Painting for Life: Set for Success with Painting in the Traditional Way

This course is intended for those who would like to try out oil painting, or for students who have some experience with oils and would like to learn a traditional approach. All levels are welcome.

​

The workshop will start with an introduction to materials needed to begin as an oil painter. We will concentrate on a simplified material list aimed at getting one started as an oil painter and keeping the cost affordable. The materials will all be artist quality and there will be a lot of information on how an oil painting is constructed in the traditional manner.

​

We will spend some time on basic colour theory and begin to use some of that knowledge to paint a small study. There will be demos by Kathy to show one how to approach a painting from the ground up. All reference materials will be provided and will include high quality landscape or still life images.

​

Throughout the 3 days, students will be able to build a finished painting in stages and gain an understanding in structure, materials, colour theory and paint handling. It will provide one with the confidence to continue with oils as a medium on their own.
